Panellists

Dr Karen Magraith

Dr Karen Magraith is a General Practitioner in Hobart, where she is involved in registrar and student training. She is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Tasmania, and President of the Australasian Menopause Society.

Karen recognises that most menopause medicine occurs in general practice, where the GP is in a unique position to manage the medical, gynaecological and psychosocial issues in an integrated way.

Professor Bev Lawton (ONZM)

Dr Bev Lawton (Te Aitanga-a-Hauiti) is founder/director of Te Tātai Hauora o Hine (the National Centre for Women’s Health Research Aotearoa) at Victoria University of Wellington (previously at University of Otago). She is a general practitioner and co-founded the Wellington Menopause Clinic about 25 years ago. This led to an interest in research to answer questions relevant to women’s health and inequities, which has led to changes in policy and practice in Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally.

She is the 2022 Winner of the Women of Influence Innovation, Science & Health Award, the author of the book ‘Menopause: a guide for every woman’ and in 2019 was awarded the Australasian Menopause Society Award for significant contribution to women’s health and the Māori Women’s Health Award from mini��ý��� in 2020.

Tessa Kowaliw

Tessa Kowaliw is the Community Representative for the mini��ý��� Council. In her role, Tessa provides a consumer’s perspective on matters considered by the College’s Council in relation to women’s healthcare in Australia and New Zealand.

Tessa holds a consumer role with Women’s Healthcare Australasia, has been involved with the Women’s & Children’s Hospital Network (Adelaide), and is a co-author on the International Consortium of Health Outcome Measurement (ICHOM) standard set for pregnancy and childbirth.

She has presented on value-based healthcare (VBHC) models and patient-reported outcome and experience measurements (PROMs/PREMs) for ICHOM (London and Washington), the Birth Care Symposium (Utrecht), and the Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA).

Dr Judith Gardiner

Dr Judith Gardiner, an advanced mini��ý��� Diplomate, is a mini��ý��� Board Director, as well as being the current Chair of the mini��ý��� Diplomates’ Committee and Vice Chair of the Conjoint Committee for the Diploma of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. She has been a GP Obstetrician since 1980 working in regional, rural and remote locations. She is also a Dmini��ý��� examiner and the Diplomate representative on the NSW State Committee.

She is a passionate advocate for GP Obstetrics, and understands the difficulties of juggling an obstetric career with raising a family.

Chair

Dr Gillian Gibson

Dr Gillian Gibson is a mini��ý��� Vice President.

Gillian has been a mini��ý��� Fellow since 1997. She was a New Zealand representative on the 9th and 10th mini��ý��� Councils 2014-2018 and member of the O&G Magazine Editorial Advisory Group 2011-2018. She is ex-officio member of Te Kāhui Oranga ō Nuku, an elected member 2005–2011 and Chair of the New Zealand committee 2008–2010.

She is a Generalist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Auckland District Health Board (ADHB) with a special interest in outpatient gynaecology including hysteroscopy, colposcopy and sexual & reproductive healthcare. She is Clinical Director of the Auckland regional first trimester abortion service. She has a private gynaecology practice and was a member of a private obstetric group practice in Auckland for 18 years.
